Creation In Progress (To Have Done With The Judgment Of God)

Dear Friends,

I’m very excited to announce that Boston Experimental Theatre Company (BETC) has started working on its new production: “To Have Done With The Judgment Of God“. I have spent many years studying Antonin Artaud and Jerzy Grotowski, and the concept of creating a unique relationship between actors and audience. I started BETC to further explore how to cultivate this relationship in a way that is enriching for those who actively partake in the experience. As the Artistic Director of BETC, I am proud to be part of a great team of talented and committed artists who are willing to push their limits further than ever for this new production.

Our new production will be a unique undertaking with multiple performances on stage and on the streets of Boston. This will be a long term, evolving, workshop in collaboration with the great visual artist Philippe Lejeune, and BETC actors Lorna Nogueira, Jared Wright, Hannah Cranton and the music director Phil Mantis. All of us are very excited to create a special experience. Our intent is to develop a show that fosters meaningful communication between the actors and the audience, so that everyone involved can honestly explore feelings held captive in the body and the unconscious. Such emotions are ordinarily ignored and eclipsed by social habits, fear, and distraction, but the unique qualities of theatre allow for a public space to explore them.

If you are interested in Grotowski’s physical theatre, Artaud’s fantasy theatre, or experimental theatre, you are invited to follow us on this site or through our Facebook page. All performances will be listed there. You can also sign up for our mailing list if you would like to be informed of open rehearsals.
